About Robyn Menzies

  • My Thoughts

I am both privileged and humbled in having had the opportunity to work alongside a broad range of people from many walks of life: female and male, gay and straight, young and old, many ethnicities, cultures and spiritual orientations. I welcome and respect people’s uniqueness and diversity. At the same time, I appreciate the interconnectedness of what we as human beings hold in common – that beneath our differences are fundamentally, shared experiences and concepts of the heart, creativity and suffering - that are universal.

My aim is to bring sensitivity, clarity, warmth and humour to my work along with my belief in self-determination and responsibility. My integrated approach to counselling includes not only finding ways to help reduced symptoms, but to jointly explore what your life means to you, your potential and any unrealised possibilities – that is -  living more fully, more joyfully and more choice-fully.

  • My Qualifications

I am a registered Social Worker and a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers. I also have accreditation in Mental Health under MHAASW requirements as well as registration as a clinical supervisor with the Australian College of Social Workers.

My interest in counselling began with an Associate Diploma of Welfare Studies in 1979 and I have since completed Post Graduate training in Relational Gestalt Psychotherapy at Gestalt Therapy Australia. My training includes Clinical Hypnotherapy with the Australian College of Medical Hypnosis and my studies continue in this area. Additionally, I have been a faculty member of Victoria University and higher education institutions and have been involved in the training and supervision of counsellors, welfare officers and social workers since 1981.

  • My Experience

My experience spans over thirty years of working with professionals, individuals, children, young people and families within government and non-government sectors which includes Dept. Human Services, hospitals, private industry, community agencies and counselling services. I also maintain international links with Towards Healing.

Areas and fields of work are inclusive of mental health, education, drug and alcohol, advocacy, child protection and community care. I have helped people resolve a broad range of issues including depression and anxiety, sexual abuse, trauma, work related stress together with grief separation and loss.

  • Currently

I work in private practise offering both long and short term counselling and psychotherapy. I remain committed to ongoing personal and professional development through continuing education, workshops and conferences as well as participating in regular clinical supervision which helps me to be a more effective therapist.

My current areas of interest are trauma, abuse and depression
